The lake view is had from the bedroom, which boasts a glorious king-sized bed, flatscreen TV, plush chaise lounge, and an ample closet where I’m presented with the most unbelievably comfortable bathrobe – literally the softest one I’ve ever worn. For me, it’s all just a big slice of hometown heaven! Spacious bathroom with double-sink vanity, invitingly deep bathtub, and Caitlin Cronenberg framed art photo Lake Ontario View RoomĪfter checking in, I’m taken up to my 17th floor Lake Ontario View Room which, as promised by its name, offers a stunning view of the lake – as well as the famously scenic ‘Toronto Islands’ that lie just offshore, and the 553-metre-high CN Tower, which is so close that I need to crane my neck upwards to see the top of it. My visit, it turns out, coincides exactly with the annual Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), and since the Ritz-Carlton is located directly across the street from Roy Thompson Hall – where all the star-studded gala film premieres take place – it’s often considered ground zero for visiting movie moguls and A-list celebrities. All rooms are a minimum of 450-square-feet (more than 40-square-metres) making them amongst the largest luxury hotel rooms available in Toronto. Now it’s been transformed into a chic five-star hotel featuring 263 luxurious guest rooms – including 56 one-bedroom Corner Suites, four Simcoe Suites, two Wellington Suites, and one grand Ritz-Carlton Suite. Turns out this prime patch of real estate on Wellington Street, a stone’s throw from University Avenue, was once a simple car park. Dramatic nighttime skyline views from inside the Club Lounge at the Ritz-Carlton Toronto When I arrived at the hotel’s front entrance, on a crisp fall afternoon in September, I couldn’t help but wonder what stood here before, as this 53-storey tower sits smack dab in the middle of one of the city’s most coveted downtown districts. Truth be told, I actually grew up in Toronto, but I relocated to Asia in 2010 – a year before the Ritz-Carlton Toronto first launched. “You can’t go wrong with the Ritz-Carlton,” I once heard someone remark, so naturally I was overjoyed to find myself booked into one of these prestigious properties during a recent visit to Toronto. For over a century it has remained a leading luxury brand by rigorously adhering to its own elevated standards. In the hotel world, the name Ritz-Carlton is synonymous with refinement and sophistication. First opened in 2011, the Ritz-Carlton Toronto is a chic and sophisticated urban sanctuary. ![]()
